Where to Watch ‘The Other Two’: HBO Max It’s telling that Pat Dubek (another unsurprisingly great performance from Molly Shannon) is the hardest-working woman in the industry, but not because she feeds off attention or wants to climb the fame ladder. It’s because she feels bad saying “no.” In a Season 2 filled with perfectly calibrated digs aimed at all corners of the entertainment business, “The Other Two” proved that it also had room to deal with some real emotion underneath....

Even if “The Spine of Night” struggles to align its overarching story with the anthology-like shape that it takes, it’s still rare and rewarding to watch a film that makes so few bones about what it wants to be — all the more so when “what it wants to be” is a merciless blood-storm that feels like it was adapted from the most intense blacklight poster your best friend’s older brother used to hang in the basement of his mom’s house....

Toni Collette, who plays murder victim Kathleen in “The Staircase,” revealed that the cast went back and forth over who was to blame for her death. “During the shoot, we changed our minds every second day, and that’s part of the retelling of it,” Collette told Variety. “That’s part of why it’s so compelling. Ahead of the 30th anniversary of “Wayne’s World,” which was released on February 14, 1992, director Penelope Spheeris revisited filming the classic comedy and shared what really went down behind the scenes. That iconic “Bohemian Rhapsody” sing-a-long? Yep, it took almost a full day to film. “We were towing the car down the streets in Covina,” Spheeris told The Hollywood Reporter. “I had cameras all over the car because I needed the coverage for the title sequence....

Though Netflix beat analysts’ financial expectations, the dour subscriber data caused the company’s stock to drop around 10 percent in afterhours trading. The company’s Q1 subscriber data is a stark contrast to Netflix’s Q1 2020 earnings report, when the company added over 15 million subscribers. The company stated that it had 208 million subscribers at the end of Q1 2021. In fact, maybe many things she thought were right or correct or fulfilling are not. Call it “Millennial Ennui: The Movie,” but the great trick of Trier’s wonderful film and Reinsve’s fully realized performance is how acutely it recognizes a truth that doesn’t adhere to tossed-off designations....

The onscreen exposition stretches out into the stars, and for a moment, it feels endless, as though you’ll simply keep reading for two hours rather than embarking on an interstellar adventure. That’s how it felt last December, when Disney spokespeople made announcement after announcement during a four-hour presentation to investors, many of which focused on the further expansion of George Lucas’ blockbuster film franchise via Disney+....

The mogul behind the “Madea” franchise revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that poor reviews impacted casting on his upcoming period piece, “A Jazzman’s Blues,” which he wrote, directed, and produced. Set in the 1940s South, “A Jazzman’s Blues” was penned by Perry 27 years ago, with Lionsgate originally attached to produce the film in 2007. The film centers on Bayou (Joshua Boone), a young Black jazz singer in Louisiana who rekindles his decades-long romance with his white-passing former girlfriend (Solea Pfeiffer)....

While originally a release set up at Paramount Pictures for February 2021, the studio sold the rights to the film to streamer Hulu in December. “The United States vs. Billie Holiday” has, so far, not had any festival play, but it comes with plenty of star wattage that should make it a buzzy title next month. Trevante Rhodes, Natasha Lyonne, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, and Garrett Hedlund round out the cast....

“Vanessa Redgrave’s name is being included in recent stories relating to the casting of the upcoming film ‘The Man Who Drew God,’” Redgrave’s statement reads. “While there have been discussions about the possibility of her joining the cast, she will not appear in the film.“ Redgrave has been married to Nero since 2006 but their romance extends back to the production of 1967’s “Camelot,” when they first met. They’ve appeared in other films together over the decades, including in 2010’s “Letters to Juliet....

Typical of Sony’s policy, “Ghostbusters” spent seven weeks in theaters before it moved to PVOD; this weekend, it was #8 on the box office charts and dropping 24 percent for one of the best holds. Universal took a much more aggressive stance with “Sing 2.” At $24.99, it’s more expensive than its standard $19.99 PVOD rental price. It also took advantage of the film’s midweek opening to technically comply with the 17-day window agreement with theaters — one that was understood to mean three weekends....

In an announcement made by chair of the Chamber’s Walk of Fame selection committee, Ellen K, directors Jon Favreau and John Waters, as well as actress Mindy Kaling, Uma Thurman, and Paul Walker will all receive stars this year. Others set to have star ceremonies include Vince Vaughn, Martin Lawrence, and Bill Pullman. Warner Bros. Discovery is going at FAST, well, fast. On the company’s most recent quarterly earnings call, Zaslav said WBD “will be aggressively attacking the AVOD market with our own FAST offering in 2023.” Between that and the pending combination of HBO Max and Discovery+, WBD engineers should probably plan to work through the holidays. Zaslav sees his company’s giant film and TV library as providing a “unique opportunity to increase our addressable market and drive real value....

The CBS drama “Clarice” might not necessarily live up to its “Silence of the Lambs” source material — at least not yet, according to Ben Travers’ IndieWire review of the new show — but it will definitely remind you just how good Jonathan Demme’s Oscar-winning 1991 movie is. The series takes place a year after the events of “Silence of the Lambs,” and stars Rebecca Breeds as young FBI upstart Clarice Starling (the role made famous by Jodie Foster in Demme’s film)....

Wes Anderson’s first live-action film in six years “The French Dispatch,” was originally slated for release last summer but like just about everything in 2020, the film was delayed, as was the Cannes Film Festival where it officially premiered earlier this month. Now that “The French Dispatch” has an official release date of October 16, there’s no better way to pass the time than by brushing up on Anderson’s filmography....
