More than most films, Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet” was made not only to be seen in theaters; it was shot in the 70mm and IMAX process, and produced to be seen on premium formats. IndieWire has compiled a list of 70mm and IMAX theaters playing “Tenet” in the United States. We also have confirmed 70mm print dates (that is, non-digital but projected on screen via film) among the initial dates. The list provided by IMAX shows 212 theaters in the U.S. showing the film by the weekend (with most having limited previews the prior Monday to Wednesday). The U.S. engagements are in 42 states, some of which don’t include core urban areas such as Seattle, Oregon , Detroit, and Cleveland. Of the 11 states with no engagements, some have reopened but do not have IMAX locations.  New York, North Carolina, and D.C. remain fully closed for indoor theaters.

As limited dates for “Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood” and “The Joker” showed last year, there are few locations available to play 70mm on film; with California and New York closed, the options are even fewer. 70mm (film format) Plaza – Atlanta GA Music Box – Chicago IL Willow Creek – Plymouth MN Gateway Center – Columbus OH Highland – Austin TX   70mm (IMAX format) Indiana State Museum IMAX – Indianapolis IN Autonation IMAX – Fort Lauderdale FL   Warner Bros. Here are the U.S. IMAX dates set to open this week:
